Dr Errol Wagner expounds on the meaning and application of God's grace...
Worldwide, there is a growing call from influential voices like Peter Singer, Ira W. DeCamp Professor of Bioethics at Princeton University, as well as Tom Regan, professor emeritus of philosophy at North Carolina State University (ret) who specialises in ‘animal rights theory’, for animals to be considered as “non-human persons” and “members of the moral community.” They argue that all sentient creatures (i.e. all animals) should not be regarded as property, even as property that is to be treated kindly.
Singer does not believe that that there are things such as ‘natural rights’ and that animals ought to enjoy the same rights as humans.
Regan argues that, because the moral rights of humans are based on their possession of certain cognitive abilities, and because these abilities are also possessed by at least some non-human animals, such animals must have the same moral rights as humans.
